...Although there have been many histories of the French cinema, French-specific theorising on the cinema has not to our knowledge formed part of any introductory texts; 'film theory' is seen as a global phenomenon that tends to elide French specific continuities. There are guidebooks on how to study or write on film, but, again, these are not French-specific. There are no books for students outlining the different types of research in French cinema; this is confined to scattered reviews in learned journals or alluded to in a fragmentary way in scholarly tomes. Our volume is an attempt to combine all of these strands - history, theory, practice - with the more usual statistics one might expect to find in a student handbook.

...But one strong strand of criticism sees “New Hollywood” as a brief window of opportunity running from the late 1960s to the early 1970s, when an adventurous new cinema emerged, linking the traditions of classical Hollywood genre filmmaking with the stylistic innovations of European art cinema. This concept of “the new” is predicated on a new audience demographic making its aesthetic preferences felt by opting for a new kind of cinema, alliteratively described by Andrew Sarris as a cinema of “alienation, anomie, anarchy and absurdism”.

нет, не могу скрыть удовольствия от чтения Бунюэля которого почему-то много лет назад закрыл и отложил подальше

`В конце пикника, когда мы уже изрядно выпили, не помню по какому поводу, Гала снова вывела меня из себя. Я резко вскочил, схватил ее, бросил на землю и стал душить.
Перепуганная Сесиль вместе с женой рыбака спрятались в скалах. Стоя на коленях, Дали умолял меня пощадить Галу. Несмотря на весь свой гнев, я не терял над собой контроля. Я знал, что не убью ее. Я хотел лишь увидеть кончик ее языка между зубами.
В конце концов я отпустил ее. И она через два дня уехала.
Мне рассказывали позднее, что в Париже — где мы некоторое время жили в одной гостинице неподалеку от Монмартрского кладбища — Элюар не выходил на улицу без маленького с инкрустацией на рукоятке револьвера, так как Гала сказала ему, что я хотел ее убить`
